For the Bars:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup (22g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour

For the Frosting:

  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: white sprinkles or sanding sugar for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8″ (20x20cm) baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and food coloring until smooth. Stir in cocoa powder, salt, and flour until just combined.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  4. Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  5. Let cool completely before frosting.
  6. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add vanilla and powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
  7. Spread frosting evenly over cooled bars. Garnish with sprinkles or sugar, if desired.
  8. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For cleaner cuts, chill the bars for 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
