Dough

  • 1 cup whole or 2% milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (0.25 ounce)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Cinnamon Sugar Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cream Cheese Icing

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 24 Tbsp. milk (add 1 tbsp. at a time)

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: Begin by melting 1/2 stick of unsalted butter. Combine with warm milk in a bowl.
  2. Activate Yeast: Heat the milk-butter mixture, add sugar and yeast, let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare Dough: Mix in egg, salt, vanilla, and flour gradually until soft dough forms.
  4. Proof Dough: Cover and let dough rise in a warm oven for 10 minutes.
  5. Make Filling: Combine ingredients for cinnamon sugar filling.
  6. Roll Out Dough: Roll dough into a rectangle, spread filling, roll into a log, and slice into rolls.
  7. Bake: Place rolls in a pan, bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.
  8. Prepare Icing: Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk for icing.
  9. Ice Rolls: Spread icing on warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
