  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup fresh strawberry purée

For the strawberry buttercream:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup strawberry purée
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For topping:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, halved

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Mix in sour cream and strawberry purée.
  5. Add dry ingredients gradually until smooth.
  6. Divide batter evenly into pans and bake 25–28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar, strawberry purée, and vanilla. Beat until fluffy.
  9. Layer and frost the cake. Top with fresh strawberry halves.
