- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp white or apple cider vinegar

For the Peanut Butter Filling:
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1–2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
For the Chocolate Ganache:
- 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
For Topping:
- 2 tbsp peanut butter, melted for drizzle
- Crushed roasted peanuts or peanut butter cookie crumbs (optional)
- Preheat oven and prepare pans: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add wet ingredients: Stir in warm water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla until smooth. Divide batter between pans.
- Bake: Bake for 25–28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Prepare filling: Beat peanut butter and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk gradually for spreadable texture.
- Make ganache: Heat heavy cream, pour over chocolate chips, stir until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- Assemble: Place one cake layer, spread peanut butter frosting, top with second layer. Pour ganache over the top, drizzle melted peanut butter, and add crushed peanuts or crumbs.
- Chill: Chill cake for 30 minutes before slicing for clean cuts.
Notes
- You can add crushed peanuts or cookie crumbs between the cake layers for added crunch.
- Ensure the ganache is slightly cooled but still pourable for a perfect drip effect.
- Store the cake in the refrigerator but let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to shine.
